1600 Vine, Hollywood, Ca.

As part of the mega-development that included the W Hotel at Hollywood and Vine, 1600 Vine is a TOD (transit oriented development) that opened south of the hotel and the Metro Red Line portal.

The Hollywood/Vine area has seen a flurry of development in the years after the subway had been extended. Besides this building and the W Hotel, there has also been the conversion of the Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street skyscraper into housing, the Cinerama Dome becoming the Arclight, and the Sunset-Vine apartments with retail anchored by Borders lining the ground floor.

Note the four levels of parking above the ground floor and below the residences. This is transit oriented development unique to L.A. Despite being in the heart of Hollywood, with a subway and frequent bus services everywhere, even TODs are built under the premise that all tenants, visitors and other users will drive and have the same parking requirements as a suburban shopping mall.
